Brigham Young Denied Being Prophet

12/08/2001 - from www.strangite.org

Brigham Young repeatedly denied being a prophet!

Journal of Discourses, 5:177
"I do not profess to be a Prophet. I never called myself so; but I actually believe I am, because people are all the time telling me that I am."

Journal of Discourses, 6:320
"A person was mentioned to-day who did not believe that Brigham Young was a Prophet, Seer, and Revelator. I wish to ask every member of this whole community, if they ever heard him profess to be a Prophet, Seer, and Revelator, as Joseph Smith was? . . . Who ordained me to be First President of this Church on earth? I answer, It is the choice of this people, and that is sufficient."

Journal of Discourses, 13:166
"It has been remarked sometimes, by certain individuals, that President Young has said in public that he was not a prophet nor the son of a prophet."

Times and Seasons, 5:618
"You are now without a prophet present with you in the flesh to guide you; but you are not without apostles . . ."

Javelin's Through Wife's Heart - Spilling Blood

07/11/2001 - Heavenly Fodder of recovery bulletin board

“Let me suppose a case. Suppose you found your brother in bed with your wife, and put a javelin through both of them, you would be justified, and they would atone for their sins, and be received into the kingdom of God. I would at once do so in such a case; and under such circumstances, I have no wife whom I love so well that I would not put a javelin through her heart, and I would do it with clean hands.” (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 3, pg. 247, 1856)

"…They are the old hardened sinners, and are almost—if not altogether—past improvement, and are full of hell, and my prayer is that God's indignation may rest upon them, and that He will curse them from the crown of their heads to the soles of their feet. I say, that there are men and women that I would advise to go to the President immediately, and ask him to appoint a committee to attend to their case; and then let a place be selected, and let that committee shed their blood… I would ask how many covenant breakers there are in this city and in this kingdom. I believe that there are a great many; and if they are covenant breakers we need a place designated, where we can shed their blood… They are a perfect nuisance, and I want them cut off, and the sooner it is done the better.” (J.M. Grant, First Presidency, Journal of Discourses vol. 4: 219-220 Sept. 21,1856 SLC, Utah)"

Brigham Said A Lot Of Things

06/28/2001 - Allred of recovery bulletin board

1."[I]f the Son was begotten by the Holy Ghost, it would be very dangerous to baptize and confirm females, and give the Holy Ghost to them, lest he [the Holy Ghost] should BEGET CHILDREN...." LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 1, p. 51

2. "Mankind are here because they are the offspring of parents [Adam and Eve] who were first brought here from another PLANET, and power was given them to propagate their species." Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, p. 285, 1859, emphasis added

3."He [Adam] was the person who brought the animals and the seeds from other planets to this world.... You may read and believe what you please as to what is found written in the Bible. Adam was made from the dust of an earth, but not from the dust of this earth." Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 3, p. 319, 1856,.

4.Brigham Young said his discourses are as good as Scripture. "I say now, when they [his discourses] are copied and approved by me they are as good Scripture as is couched in this Bible . . . " (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 13, p. 264; see also page 95.)

5.Brigham Young said you can't get to the highest heaven without Joseph Smith's consent. "...no man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, p. 289

6.Brigham Young said that God the Father and Mary 'do it.' "When the time came that His first-born, the Saviour, should come into the world and take a tabernacle, the Father came Himself and favoured that spirit with a tabernacle instead of letting any other man do it." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 4, Page 218.) "The birth of the Savior was as natural as are the births of our children; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood -- was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 8, page 115). Note: the late Bruce McConkie who was a member of the First Council of the Seventy stated "There is nothing figurative about his paternity; he was begotten, conceived and born in the normal and natural course of events..." (Mormon Doctrine, by Bruce McConkie, page

President Hinckley stated, "Brigham Young said a lot of things." Please see "Bings Corner" and http://www.carm.org/lds/quote_by.htm

Brigham's Devilish Halloween Quote

"Giving endowments to a great many proves their overthrow, through revealing things to them which they cannot keep. They are not worthy to receive them. Brother Heber takes the lead in giving endowments, and you may ask, "Why do you give such folks their endowments?" To qualify them to be devils, if they wish to be. The plan of salvation is calculated to make devils as well as Saints; for by and by we shall need some to serve as devils; and it takes almost as much knowledge to make a complete devil as it does to fit a man to go into the celestial kingdom of God, and become an heir to His kingdom. We want to complete the education of a number of such fellows; (JD Vol.4, p.372, Brigham Young, June 28, 1857)
